Booking system
A booking chart for the following calendar year is circulated.
Each owner has a priority for that year, and moves up a couple
of places each year: after a year at the top of the list, the
owner then starts at the bottom, and after six years the cycle begins again.

Each owner can choose two weeks
(separately or as a fortnight) in the ‘high season’
(April to October), and one week in the remainder
of the year. By this route, thirty-six weeks are firmly
booked before the year begins. 

Allowing for time for winter maintenance,
the remaining fourteen weeks are booked
with priority in reverse order to the original chart,
so having last choice originally does have its compensations.

These extra bookings are confirmed on the first day of the
month before the month of the booking.
Priority for school holidaysA maximum of three owners may have "School Holiday"
priority where they choose their weeks ahead of the others
but MUST align their weeks to school holidays.

These owners pay a premium of 25% on all the running costs
over and above the other owners for having this "special" option.

At present one share is designated as one with school holiday status (Correct 2020) 

General Comments About the Boat

A Reeves-built 10/6/4mm steel construction vessel, fitted-out by Milburn Boats, with Betamarine 43bhp diesel engine. She has a semi-traditional stern and a mid galley and has been very well looked-after by her syndicate of owners. 

Diesel central heating via new Webasto heater to radiators and a solid fuel stove. Water heating by diesel boiler and by engine (calorifier).

Inside steps to master bedroom (double bed extendable to king size, storage under), with Flat Screen TV, en-suite cloakroom and full-height wardrobe.

Fully lined curtains to all windows and blinds in kitchen and bathroom. Carpet tiles to all areas and vinyl flooring to bathroom. Light maple T&G timber and veneered panels. Willoughby is very light and airy with good use of recessed and spot lighting.

Starting from the stern and working forward:

Semi-traditional Helmsmans deck with seating area (storage lockers under - 2 gas bottles, mooring pins, windlasses etc) and engine under deck.

Inside steps to master bedroom (double bed extendable to king size, storage under), with en-suite cloakroom and full-height wardrobe.

Corridor with bathroom off - corner bath with shower over, full width mirror over bath, basin with cupboard under and wall mirrors over, WC, built-in cupboard, extractor fan.

Spacious galley has sink/drainer, gas hob, eye level oven & grill, microwave, larder fridge under the worksurface, large storage cupboards. A good range of crockery and cooking utensils are provided, plenty for a crew of six. Large side hatch off galley, with removable perspex screen.

Pull-out guest wardrobe, raised L-shaped dinette which easily seats six with the additional stools, and converts to a comfortable double bed. There is storage under the dinette, plus two sizes of table which can be stored securely against the side.

Solid fuel stove  and dividing curtain separating sleeping areas.

Flat screen TV with DVD/video player, Freeview receiver, radio/CD player (both TV and radio can be relayed to the master bedroom) and 2 chairs which convert to single beds (which can be placed together to make a larger bed).

Fully-opening double French doors which fold right back on themselves to open up the front deck (this is wonderful in hot weather) which has a seating area for four people with storage lockers under, small free-standing table, separate leatherette cushions for the seating area which are stored inside the boat. 100 gallon fresh water tank.

We bought our share nearly 3 years ago. It's reminded us how great the canals are, and we've loved every minute on board. We want to do more, so we bought our own boat!

We've used all of our primary allocation of 3 weeks each year. We've done a couple of loops, and a couple of out-and-backs. We've explored urban Birmingham up to Titford pools, and rural Staffordshire down to Froghall. Our lastest trip was into central Manchester's Castlefield basin. It's been great.

We've also used typically 2 additional low season "spare" weeks each year. During winter it can be cold outside (and suitable clothing fixes that!), but the central heating and solid-fuel stove provide more than enough heat to keep us and the boat toasty warm inside; we get the canal pretty much to ourselves, and any other active boaters seem really pleased to see us using the canal.

The syndicate is strong and ensures the boat's long-term needs are well looked after. There is a clear intention to ensure she is working well for all members and for all weeks she's expected to be out & cruising. Bedding (matresses & duvets) are renewed regularly, new equipment (latest is a cordless Dyson vacuum cleaner) is discussed and purchased as needed. Major questions are discussed on an all-members WhatsApp group, and we meet annually (in the autumn, somewhere central) to review and agree costs, plans and any other items that arise. The planned expense of work in winter 2020, including shot-blast and 2-pack blacking, are expected to produce savings in the longer-term, which any new purchaser will benefit from.

The boat is currently in Cheshire, but the syndicate have decided to move to Aston Marina on the Trent & Mersey starting with the 2021 season.

Our latest trips were into central Manchester's Castlefield basin and to Chester. It's been great.
