| Booking system | Each owner is assured a minimum use of 6 weeks in any one year. An owner chooses a four consecutive week block in the ‘high season’ (April to September inclusive), and two weeks in the ‘shoulder months’ of March and October/November. If an owner wishes to split their four week block they must consult with the other owners to make sure that does not prevent others from taking their four consecutive week block. Each owner takes it in turn to have priority in booking, moving up one position in the priority table each year over a repeated six year cycle. Allowing for time for winter maintenance, any remaining weeks are booked, if required, with priority allocated in reverse order. |
| Priority for school holidays | No such scheme on this boat |

| Running costs for 2026 (How do these figures compare? Link opens new window) | Last year (2025) my fees were regular upkeep £1575 this is split between four quarterly payments as requested by the treasurer. This is determined by agreement at the AGM in October. Plus there were two other payments this year for items that required replacing, one for a new cooker of £250 and a new webasto heater £200 which are not regular payments. |
| How are the running costs to be apportioned | I would ask the incoming owner to take over the monthly contribution from purchase. |

General comments by vendor
I have been part of this wonderful boat and syndicate for only three years now but my health severely detriorated last year and as a result I could only take one out of my six allocated weeks. I am heartbroken to have to sell, our syndicate members are extremely welcoming, friendly and proactive in maintaining our boat, we all love Swallowtail and keep her in extremely good condition and well maintained, we are all extremely proud of her.
The boat benefitted from a complete repaint in 2021 & the addition of Solar Panels in 2023 which ensure the batteries are kept fully charged. The boat has also recently had a new webasto heater (2025) and new wood laminate flooring (2026)
Our present base at Great Hayward gives a wide choice of routes & having a block of 4 weeks gives the chance for long cruises covering a large part of the canal system.
Swallowtail owners are a friendly proactive group with a 'hands on' attitude when it comes to maintaining the boat. The engine and gearbox are serviced professionally in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and the winter service will usually include an annual bottom blacking.
The boat is equipped with duvets and pillows which are renewed as required, a full set of Nicholson Guides, vacuum cleaner, toolbox, landline and carbon monoxide detector.
There is an annual owners meeting usually held in October when owners agree expenditure, improvements and moorings for the following year. We make all decisions jointly and communicate regularly, by email.
Owners are required to agree the terms set out in a Syndicate Agreement designed to safeguard all aspects of shared ownership and a copy of this may be seen by arrangement with the vendors.
Swallowtail owners are proud of their boat and wish to maintain her in top condition, the Syndicate Agreement makes it a condition of sale that new owners have had at least two weeks of narrowboat hiring or ownership experience (or equivalent) in the last two years.
