Booking system | A booking chart for the following calendar year is circulated by e-mail in agreed priority order in the autumn. Each owner has a priority for that year, and moves up a couple of places each year: after a year at the top of the list, the owner then starts at the bottom, and after six years the cycle begins again. Each owner can choose two weeks (separately or as a fortnight) in the ‘high season’ (April to September inclusive), and one week in the remainder of the year. By this route, thirty-six weeks are firmly booked before the year begins. Allowing for time for winter maintenance, the remaining fourteen weeks are booked with priority in reverse order to the original chart, so having last choice originally does have its compensations. The boat "year" for bookings is April-March |
Priority for school holidays | A maximum of two owners may have special shares which give priority for booking, but they do not have to specifically select school weeks and can pick ANY weeks in the year. These owners pay a higher proportion of the costs than ordinary shares. |
General Comments About the Boat
Shelton is a very comfortable, well laid out and equipped, semi-trad style boat.
The rear deck has two lockers to the port side with storage for gas bottles in one and mooring equipment, windlass etc in the other. The lockers, with removable soft cushions, can be used as seats for two people.
Below the rear deck is a regularly serviced 4 cylinder Nanni Diesel engine, with the calorifier and battery banks. Shelton benefits from a hydraulic drive unit which negates the need for regular attention to the rear stern gland.
Entering through the rear door, and down the steps we enter the main bedroom. The en-suite toilet with wash basin is to the left followed by a wardrobe cupboard with hanging space which also allows access to the header tank for the boiler. The bed is a double which extends to king-size and has drawer storage underneath. There is also a satellite TV and DVD player, and a radiator. The controls panel for the central heating diesel fuelled 'Alde' boiler is above the bed. There is a central heating radiator on the right.
Moving on from the bedroom into the corridor, the main toilet/bathroom is on the left. This is fitted with a flushing 'pump out' toilet, wash basin, full height shower, and a heated towel rail.
This is followed again on the left by another wardrobe cupboard with hanging space, below which is the 'pull out' freezer.
Moving forwards we enter the kitchen. On the left is the oven and grill which is mounted within a kitchen cupboard unit topped with a granite work surface and stainless steel sink unit. There is a wall mounted cupboard above the oven. Next to the sink is the 4 burner hob, surrounded by further work surfaces, underneath which is the fridge. On the right is a wall unit with microwave providing further ample storage for crockery etc as well as more work surface.
The kitchen is well equipped with a full range of saucepans, utensils, cutlery, crockery and basic cleaning materials.
The water supply is via a filtration unit.
Leaving the kitchen we come to the L-shaped dinette area on the left which can sits up to six when using the two collapsible chairs that are kept on board. The dinette can be fitted with either a small or large table as required.
The dinette seating quickly converts to a second double bed at night time. and has locker space below.
On the right is an opening side hatch, with removable glazing, which bring light and fresh air to the interior.
Immediately after the dining area, there is the solid fuel stove to the left, and a further radiator on the right hand wall.
We then come to the saloon area, with two leather swivel chairs, and a satellite TV ,DVD player and radio. It is possible to fit two further camp style beds in this area, but they are not provided on the boat.
Finally we come to glazed folding doors which open on to the bow seating area, with storage lockers under. There are removable cushions for both the bow and stern seating which are kept on the boat.
All necessary instruction booklets for the various equipment and a full set of canal guide books are maintained on board
Shelton had a bare metal repaint over the winter 2019/20.

General comments by vendor
Regular maintenance and servicing is covered by a contract with the marina, who also carry out the winter works. Most owners, however, deal with minor repairs themselves.
Before changeover day, owners must ensure that the toilets are pumped out, and that fuel, water and gas are replenished ready for the next owners. All this can be done in the marina. The cost of gas and 'toilet blue' is included in the monthly running costs charge.
Shelton is a comfortable, modern boat fitted with light wood panelling and kitchen cupboards and has modern wall lights, fitted with LED bulbs for economy. The head room is particularly good, and there is no “ducking”, even in the shower!
Mains 240V electricity is available from an inverter using battery power or from a shore supply, if connected. 12V d.c. cigar lighter points powered from the domestic batteries are fitted at various locations.
Domestic hot water is heated by the engine, gas boiler or shore electricity. Central heating is from the gas boiler or shore electricity. The gas bottle and a spare are located in a stern locker.
In fine weather it is very pleasant to make use of the comfortable sitting area in the bow, where there is a removable table.
