Morpheus

Morpheus is a ‘semi-trad’ 63 foot long “reverse layout” narrowboat built in 2006. She was originally built as a live-aboard for a family and is therefore ideally suited to owners taking her on long holidays.

Most narrowboats have the kitchen in the middle of the boat, lounge area at the front and bedroom at the back. But Morpheus has the bedroom at the front, lounge in the middle and kitchen at the back - our owners love all the advantages this brings.

There is seating for at least four in the semi-trad stern area, on top of the lockers containing the gas bottles, cables, mooring equipment and tools. There is the added benefit of being able to close the back doors, keeping any children or pets safely on board, but still enjoying plenty of fresh air.

Morpheus is very well equipped. There is sleeping accommodation for six people: a king-size pull-out bed in the forward cabin (which can be converted to a settee when required, as shown in the photo); a single pair of bunk beds in a separate cabin with plenty of storage, and the seating in the lounge can be transformed into a comfy double bed.

She has a bathroom, located between the forward and bunk bed cabins, with a plunge bath and excellent shower. The basin and Elsan style Thetford cassette WC complete the set-up.

The lounge has a small settee, removable dining table, six sturdy folding chairs, a smart TV with DVD player and a diesel fuelled bubble stove (which means that you don’t have to carry coal or logs). There is also diesel-powered radiator central heating thoughout the boat which can operate with the engine off. Morpheus is always nice and cosy, whatever the weather.

The kitchen includes all amenities including a gas oven and hob unit, fridge with freezer compartment, toaster, microwave, washing machine…and, obviously, a kitchen sink, pots and pans, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, glassware and so on. There’s plenty of storage everywhere.

Technical information

Morpheus has a Beta Marine engine with dual alternators. One alternator is used for charging the starter battery, the other, a beefy 95A, charges the domestic bank which consists of four 110Ah leisure type, lead acid batteries. These four batteries provide the 12V feed for all the internal lighting as well as power to the inverter. The inverter is a top of the range Victron Energy 1.2KW smart inverter with built in smart charger. This feeds all the 240V appliances onboard.
