General Comments About the Boat

Starting at the rear is the rear deck with a lockable locker for mooring pins, windlasses etc, then two benches with storage underneath for coal and buckets.

Down the steps, alongside the wet storage area for coats, brooms, mops etc, you enter the rear galley with black worktops and oak custom built units containing sink, fridge, gas stove, pull out units, electric fuse board and inverter cupboard with battery monitors and controls. Radiator under steps.

The interior roof of the whole boat is constructed from narrow tongued and grooved solid oak.

In to the saloon area with a fixed bench sofa and removable table that converts into a double bed. Table slides underneath sofa when not required.

Side oak cabinet with a 32inch TV and separate DVD player, radio, and cupboard space. Additional oak corner cupboard for general storage of items including vacuum cleaner and table legs. The solid fuel stove is sat on a tiled hearth with an insulated flue extending through the roof. Another two radiators in this area and side hatch leading through the door to the corridor for the bathroom and forward cabin.

Bathroom complements the kitchen design with its black worktops and oak cabinets. It comprises an electric flush pump-out wc, basin with mixer tap, corner shower unit. The radiator is of a towel rail type.

From the corridor with its own radiator, through another door is the forward cabin which comprises a bespoke double bed transverse (i.e. Side to side) bed that can be folded up to allow easy access to the forward deck. The double wardrobe contains hanging space, shelf space and also a safe for personal use. The central heating and water controls are located on the side of the wardrobe. Additional bedside cupboards, corner cupboard and over bed cupboards are all crafted in the same oak as the rest of the boat. On the side of a cupboard next to the bed are gauges for the wc waste tank and also the clean water tank. With another radiator that completes the heating system, there are also double doors leading out up to the forward deck which comprises a transverse seat and gas bottle storage (3 bottles).

Running Costs

The running costs of the boat are paid monthly by standing order by all members, this year (2024) the running cost is £170 per month, this includes the following; -

Management Fee
Gas Bottles
Coal for stove
Electricity at Marina
Mooring Fees
Winter Maintainence.

It excludes the diesel used on a holiday and the toilet pump outs required.

The monthly fee also includes a payment into the 'Reserve' fund which is kept seperate to allow for major works- For example a repaint in a couple of years.

This cost is reviewed at each AGM and voted on by all members.

We have been long term owners of a share in EOS, having purchased back in July 2015 and have always enjoyed our time on her.

Sadly due to change in circumstances (career change and ill health) it is now time for us to sell the share.

She is a 'go anywhere' size and has cruised extensively around the network, having previously been based at Gayton (Grand Union Canal), Anderton (Trent and Mersey Canal), Reedly(Leeds and Liverpool) the 2023 location of Kings Bromley,

The boat is moving In April 24 to Cropeady Marina on the lovely Oxford Canal.

At 54 Foot she is perfect for a couple who use the fixed double in the forward bedroom but can just as easily take 2 couples with the second using the convertable dinette berth.

Being a little shorter than many of the share craft on the canals she is very easy to handle single handed, I have done many weeks on my own on EOS.

She can be truly used at any time of the year, being very warm in winter with the combination of the coal fire in the lounge and the gas fired central heating with radiators in each room.

She is fully fitted out in oak tongue and groove panelling and solid oak interior fittings.

The main bedroom has plenty of storage in Fitted wardrobe with shelf and hanging area. A cross bed which is extended out for use at night and stowed for allowing through access.

The bathroom has plenty of room and has sink with large mirror and surface for items, pump out toilet with electrical flush and enclosed shower cubical, access to the bathroom can be made privately from the saloon or the bedroom with doors enabling closure of each room as required, ideal for 2 couples sharing.

The galley is fully fitted out with sufficent storage for food and crockery/utensis to enable easy preperation of meals.

Externally there is room at the rear for 4 persons to sit outside, on newly replaced seats, there is a further seating area at the bow if you so desire.

EOS had a new engine fitted in 2011 and has hydraulic propulsion, she also has a hydraulicly powered bow thruster which can greatly assist in manouvering (can be used longer than an electrically powered one).
