General Comments About the Boat

Built by Alexander Boat builders (10/6/4 steel plate), with a Blue Haven Marine fit-out and traditionally decorated by the famous canal artist, Ron Hough.

Entering from the semi-traditional stern (with cushioned seating) there is a fixed one-poster bed and a Corian vanity unit, with mirror, in the master cabin. An over-bed unit contains a radio and reading lights. Alongside is a large double wardrobe. There is also good storage under the bed.

An en-suite toilet compartment is adjoining, followed by a door to separate the sleeping compartments up at night.

Beyond this door is a further shelved wardrobe, followed by the main bathroom containing a second WC, Corian vanity unit and thermostatic shower.

Next is the ‘Hough’ decorated side-doors and galley with eye-level gas double-oven, four-burner hob, sink, cupboards, worktops and microwave.

A lift-up flap creates additional worktop space and a serving area for dining.

The kitchen worktops and sink have all recently been refitted out in Corian.

The galley is also equipped with quality cooking equipment and utensils.

On from this is the dining area which can seat six and converts into a double bed.

Next is the lounge where the settee converts into another double bed. The two doubles are separated by a curtain. A solid-fuel Morso stove is in the forward corner of the cabin and a flat-screen TV, radio and DVD player are within the unit opposite. Behind this unit is a third hanging wardrobe.

The bow cratch contains the anchor, water hoses, teak garden chairs, etc and has removable triangle boards for forward-facing windows.

The whole cratch area has a removable zipped cover for security and weather protection.

A square table can be installed in the centre of the well deck for al fresco dining. In the bow locker are the gas bottles for central heating, hot water and cooking.

The boat has full central heating (radiators) and a powerful inverter provides mains power to 240V sockets throughout the boat.

Note re running costs

The monthly standing order covers all running costs, gas and winter maintenance.

Owners pay for diesel used and pump out at the end of each trip.

The syndicate fund has a healthy balance and the cost of a share includes the share of the Syndicate Fund.

Since being self managed there have been a number planned and unplanned major expenditures which have all been covered by the balance in the fund without a need to call for additional contributions from owners.
Conqueror is a syndicate owned boat with 12.5 shares & 8 owners; she has been self-managed since 2014.

All owners are members of the syndicate, and a Syndicate Agreement sets out every owner's responsibility.

A comprehensive Owner's Manual describes all aspects of boat operation. There is an expectation that new owners will have some boating experience.

After a trip, owners are expected to undertake simple cleaning tasks and some very basic maintenance. Alternatively, the marina can provide valet services.

Conqueror has a contract with River and Canal Rescue (RCR).

Winter maintenance and repairs are contracted out; the costs are included in the monthly charge.

The AGM is held each June or July. There, the owners agree on the finances, engineering and operational issues and draw & swap weeks for the coming year.

Conqueror normally stays at a base for two or three years and will continue to explore the canal network for the benefit for all owners.

Conqueror is meticulously serviced every 200/400 hours and undergoes a thorough winter preventative maintenance programme. There have been lots of improvements over the years; probably the most significant were our hull treatment Winter 2024 (2 pack epoxy & zinc by Debdale Wharf) & a complete external re-paint in March 2018 by Oxon Boat Painters.
