| Booking system | A booking chart for the following calendar year is circulated in agreed priority order, typically starting about June. SUBJECT TO the rules about Special Shares (please see below), each owner has a priority for that year, and moves up broadly a couple of places each year, as part of a six-year cycle. (To be precise, they swap places annually with the share next to them, as the pair move together up the list.) After a year at the top of the list, the pair goes to the bottom for the next year, to start the 6-year cycle again. Each owner can choose two weeks (separately or as a fortnight) in the ‘high season’ (April to September inclusive), as well as one week in the remainder of the year. Once this process is complete for all shares, owners then may choose a fourth week if they wish, but this is done in REVERSE order so that those who got last choice for their first three weeks get first choice for their fourth. Typically two weeks are allowed for winter maintenance. Any remaining weeks, plus any that arise during the year if original share-owners cannot use them, are available for other syndicate members to bid for: priority is again given in order from the BOTTOM (like the fourth weeks), except that once one week has been claimed in this round the winner drops their priority for any more. |
| Priority for school holidays | A maximum of three owners may have "Special" (or school holiday) shares which gives them priority over others. They may choose their first three weeks ahead of the others, but MUST align their weeks to their school holidays only. These owners pay more towards the running costs each year for having this "privilege" where the figure is presently £300 pa. You can relinquish your school holiday status in any year as long as the booking chart for the subsequent year has not been completed by you. |
General Comments About the Boat
Castleber is a “new generation” boat originally commissioned by Ownerships. She is a Reeves-built 10/6/4mm steel construction vessel, fitted out by Milburn Boats, with a Nanni 2.2 litre diesel engine (with a "Hospital" silencer) and powerful 6 bhp Nobel hydraulic bow thrusters.
Central heating radiators are heated by a Webasto diesel heater and there is a solid fuel stove in the saloon. Water is heated by the engine or by the Webasto.
She has a generous 100 gallon fresh water tank, and a 65 gallon fuel tank. There is 12-volt lighting and 240-volt AC supplied by inverter or by land-line hook up.
New Amtico flooring was fitted in kichen and bathroom and new carpet tiles elsewhere in 2017.
The cabin sides and ceilings are fitted with light ash T&G timber and maple veneered panels. Blinds or curtains are fitted on all windows. Castleber is light and airy with good use of both recessed and spot lighting.
The comprehensive inventory includes duvets and pillows, vacuum cleaner, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, a full set of Nicholson guides, land-line cable, river anchor and chain etc.
Starting from the stern and working forward the accommodation comprises:
-Rear 'Cruiser style' deck. Fitted with taffrail seats, the cruiser style deck is spacious, and provides a sociable environment both whilst cruising and for al fresco dining. Hatches in the decking provide access to the engine, gearbox and propellor shaft. A wrap around ‘skirt’ provides security for pets and small children.
Inside, steps lead down to the:
-Saloon which has a double sized sofa-bed. There is a corner cupboard with a flat-screen TV and separate radio.
-Dining area which has a L-shaped settee which also converts to a double bed, with storage beneath and also a small pull-out chest-freezer. There are two alternative tables, one small, one large, which can be stored securely against the wall of the boat. There are also two stools which allow 6 people to comfortably eat at the larger of the 2 tables. There is a low, pull-out wardrobe with shelves and hanging space, with a see-through glass storage cabinet above. For night time use, the dining area is separable from the saloon with full height / width curtain if required.
-Galley, fully equipped with sink/drainer, microwave, oven & grill; 4-ring gas hob; larder fridge under the work surface, extractor fan, storage cupboards and drawers. A full range of crockery and cooking utensils are provided. There is a large side-hatch opposite the sink, which has a removable clear Perspex screen allowing light into the galley when cruising or in inclement weather.
-Corridor with bathroom off. Refurbished in 2019, the bathroom has a full height, sliding door shower unit, wash basin with cupboard under and wall mirrors over, pump-out WC, a further built-in cupboard, and extractor fan.
- Master bedroom. Immediately on the left is the door leading to the ensuite toilet with second pump-out WC and wash-basin. The master bedroom has a double bed, extendable to king-size (5’), with storage beneath. Small cupboards above the bed are fitted with reading lights under. There is a full-height wardrobe. Access to the locker stretching out under foredeck is under the steps which lead to the:
-Foredeck, with fixed bench seating and lockers for two gas bottles, mooring pins, windlasses, water hose, and other items.

General comments by vendor
We have owned our share for just over a year and love it. The other owners are a friendly bunch and were very welcoming and helpful to us, as we'd never been on a narrow boat before! We've now decided to sell, as we're going to buy our own boat.
She is constantly being updated and maintained and had a full bathroom refit during winter maintenance 2019 and a replacement
At the last owner's meeting it was decided that a professional valet would be compulsory at the end of each holiday.
