Booking system
A booking chart for the following calendar year is
circulated, to be completed  by the AGM which is
usually held in late November, when it is agreed.

Each owner has a priority for that year and they
move up each year in pairs, as part of a six-year cycle.
After a year at the top of the list, the pair goes to the
bottom for the next year, to start the 6-year cycle again.

Each owner can choose two weeks (separately or together)
in ‘high season’ (April to September inclusive), and one week
in the remainder of the year.

Once this process is complete for all shares, owners then may
choose a fourth week if they wish, but this is done in reverse
order so that those who got last choice for their chosen three
weeks get first choice for their fourth.

A period is allowed for winter maintenance in January.

Any remaining weeks, plus any that arise during the
year if original share-owners cannot use them,
are available for other syndicate members to bid for.
Priority for school holidaysA maximum of three owners may have "Special"
(or school holiday shares) which gives them priority
over others.

They may choose their first three weeks before the others,
but must align their weeks to their school holidays only.

These owners pay more towards the running costs each year for having
this "privilege".

Currently there are no special shares (correct 2019).

General Comments About the Boat

General comments by vendor

AYLESTONE  is a 58ft semi traditional narrowboat, built by Milburn Boats and Reeves  in 2006 and commissioned in the former Ownerships Company fleet. Following the collapse of the company in 2010, the owners agreed to take on the management of the boat.

Subsequently a Shared Ownership Termination Agreement was signed on 26th May 2010. Ownership and self management of the boat was established under the Narrowboat  Aylestone  Syndicate Agreement 2010.

This sets out the agreed position with regard to ownership of the boat, any transfer of shares and overall management and administration. It remains in force.

The boat underwent a complete back to bare metal repaint a few years ago specifically to move away from the traditional Ownerships look and now has a very distinctive livery which attracts favourable comments.

It is taken out of the water annually as part of the winter maintenance programme and the bottom blacked.

Recent improvements have included a new central heating boiler in 2017, new curtains, new sofa bed and complete refurbishment of the dinette seating in taupe coloured faux leather to complement the curtains and create a lighter, fresher look.
