Booking systemA booking chart for the following calendar year is circulated.
Each owner has a priority for that year, and moves up a couple
of places each year: after a year at the top of the list, the
owner then starts at the bottom, and after six years the cycle begins again.

Each owner can choose two weeks
(separately or as a fortnight) in the ‘high season’
(April to October), and one week in the remainder
of the year. By this route, thirty-six weeks are firmly
booked before the year begins.

Allowing for time for winter maintenance,
the remaining fourteen weeks are booked
with priority in reverse order to the original chart,
so having last choice originally does have its compensations.

These extra bookings are confirmed on the first day of the
month before the month of the booking.
Priority for school holidaysA maximum of three owners may have "School Holiday"
priority where they choose their weeks ahead of the others
but MUST align their weeks to school holidays.

These owners pay a premium of 25% on all the running costs
over and above the other owners for having this "special" option.

General Comments About the Boat

Apperley was the first of the 'New Generation' boats commissioned by OwnerShips, and as a result is of a very high specification.

A Reeves-built 10/6/4mm steel construction vessel, fitted-out by Milburn Boats, with Betamarine 43bhp diesel engine (with silent cocoon casing) and hydraulic bow thrusters. She has a semi-traditional stern and a mid galley and has been very well looked-after by her syndicate of owners.

Diesel central heating to radiators and a solid fuel stove. Water heating by diesel boiler and by engine (calorifier) Two pump-out fresh water WCs. 12-volt lighting (LED bulbs throughout) and 240-volt AC supplied by inverter or hook up.

Fully lined curtains to all windows and blinds in kitchen and bathroom. Carpet tiles to all areas and vinyl flooring to kitchen and bathroom. Light maple T&G timber and veneered panels. Apperley is very light and airy with good use of recessed and spot lighting.

Starting from the stern and working forward:

Semi-traditional Helmsmans deck with seating area (storage lockers under - 3 gas bottles, mooring pins, windlasses etc) and engine under deck.

Inside steps to master bedroom (double bed extendable to king size) with en-suite cloakroom, storage under and full-height wardrobe.

Corridor with bathroom off - corner bath with shower over, glass shower screen, full width mirror over bath, basin with cupboard under and wall mirrors over, WC, built-in cupboard, extractor fan.

Spacious galley has sink/drainer, filtered drinking water tap, gas hob, eye level oven & grill, microwave, larder fridge under the worksurface, extractor fan, large storage cupboards. A good range of crockery and cooking utensils are provided, plenty for a crew of six. Large side hatch off galley, with removable perspex screen.

Pull-out guest wardrobe, raised L-shaped leatherette dinette which easily seats six with the additional stools, and converts to a comfortable double bed. Pull-out freezer and storage under the dinette, plus two sizes of table which can be stored securely against the side.

Solid fuel stove (with Ecofan) and dividing curtain separating sleeping areas.

Flat screen TV with DVD/video player, Freeview receiver, radio/CD player (both TV and radio can be relayed to the master bedroom) and leatherette sofa with storage under (converts to double bed).

Fully-opening double French doors which fold right back on themselves to open up the front deck (this is wonderful in hot weather) which has a seating area for four people with storage lockers under, central mount for small table, separate leatherette cushions for the seating area are stored inside the boat. 100 gallon fresh water tank.

The comprehensive inventory includes John Lewis duvets and pillows (which are replaced regularly), vacuum cleaner, carbon monoxide detector, smoke alarms.

Note regarding monthly contributions:-
As a group of owners we have been contributing an extra £25 per month towards large expenditure items. In 2021/2 this was used to purchase a new (now diesel fired) heating system and soon we will be using a large portion of it to have a new Beta engine installed. It is hoped this final item can be purchased and installed without a further cash-call from the owners. The incoming owner will benefit from these accumulated funds.

Apperley is an excellent narrow boat, well fitted out and maintained to a very high standard from new. She is modern, with a light, attractive open layout. She has an efficient central heating system and a solid fuel fire, which makes her ideal for comfortably cruising at any time of the year.

Apperley has a pleasing exterior often admired by other boaters. In Jan 2013 she had new paintwork on the roof, handrail, gunwales and rear deck counter. In each of these areas, the boat was taken back to bare metal before having a professional paint job including primer, undercoat and top coat. Non-slip additive was used in all step areas. The gunwales were painted in Andy Russell's matt black gunwale paint. In Nov 2013, as part of a comprehensive winter maintenance programme, she had new sign writing undertaken. Apperley is taken out of the water and blacked annually.

The syndicate members on Apperley are all very friendly and keep in regular contact throughout the year. An AGM is held towards the end of the year where democratic decisions are taken regarding any work to be done on the boat and any change of mooring location. All share holders are concerned with maintaining high standards on the boat. On vacating Apperley the boat is always left in spotless condition, reflecting the care given by all using her.
