General Comments About the Boat
Amethyst was taken to the Canal du Midi by trailer from NW England in 2003.
Bonikowski built this comfortable cruiser stern narrowboat for his own use.
Stern deck has gas locker, side entries and steps down to bedroom. Bimini available, together with casual chairs, umbrellas.
Under step box holds tools etc, with mooring pins, hammer etc by steps.
Engine, weed hatch, batteries easily accessible under stern deck.
Solar panels were fitted in 2022 to maintain battery power.
Fixed double 4’ bed and mattress with storage below ( includes 2 collapsible bikes) and wardrobe at bed head. Good-sized storage cupboard above bed end.
Bathroom has bath with shower, toilet, basin and good storage.
Moving forward there is a fully fitted kitchen, gas cooker with electric ignition, fridge with freezer compartment, sink, cupboarding fully stocked with crockery, pans etc.
This area leads to lounge section with pot-bellied wood burner, bed settee with under bed storage, and foldable tables and chairs.
Wardrobe and storage are next to the steps up to the front deck, with a TV/DVD player on the other side. S/S water tank and electric pump are under the deck with access from the lounge.
The front deck can take a couple of casual chairs and has storage for ropes, fenders, BBQ, anchor, firewood, hoses etc.
Amethyst is an attractive English narrowboat popular on the canal as it is unusual there. Much admired - and has even been featured on French TV!

General comments by vendor
Amethyst does not limit herself to the Canal du Midi. She has been as far as Bordeaux to the west, Agen and the Med to the east, and most points between.
Changeover port would probably need to be arranged with your predecessors/successors on the boat, but can be and has been done many times.
VNF manages the Canal and all Owners must hold an International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft. 1 and 2 day courses are easily available from local marinas and/or the RYA for a low cost.
As will be seen from above, the Canal is closed for maintenance between November and April, but Amethyst can be a very cheap B&B whilst wintering in Toulouse in a locked and personned port.
We have an AGM, currently in Lancashire in January. Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Holiday Secretary, Engineer and Housekeeper posts are confirmed and agreements made for whatever the boat may imminently need. The Canal du Midi is a World Heritage Site (The Citadel at Carcassonne is another), with beautiful adjoining countryside, villages, vineyards and loads of sunshine.
Other boat users and lock keepers create a very pleasant and friendly atmosphere.
There is plenty of leisure power onboard, from 4 x 100amp leisure batteries, a starter battery and invertor. Oil changes are due very 150 hours or so. The boat carries full service records and log books.
