This is the second time of running the same system. 

Summer (24 weeks) is divided into 4 blocks of 3 x 2 weeks.
Each 2 week period is given a letter, 'A' to 'N'.
At the AGM each member draws a letter (or 2 letters if he/she owns 2 shares)
corresponding to a 2 week period. If he/she draws letter 'A' they will be the
first 2 weeks of the first summer block of that year.

The next year the letters move by block and move within a block so that,
at the end of the 4 year cycle, each letter (2 week period) has been in all 
blocks and all positions within a block. The same applies to the winter period.

This fiendishly complicated yet clever system means you know for the next 
four years when you will be using the boat and can plan accordingly.

General Comments About the Boat


The living accommodation of Glistening Steel is accessed from the stern helm position via steps which lead down to the saloon.

There is a settee, with storage under, a free standing table, and numerous fitted cupboards on the port side.

The saloon also houses a TV and DVD player and is equipped for satellite TV. An inbuilt radio/ music player completes the electronic equipment. 

Steps at the forward end of the saloon have cupboards either side for the light controls and cleaning equipment and lead down to the dining area and galley. The galley is well equipped with gas hob, microwave and fridge and ample cupboards for cooking equipment/implements, crockery and cutlery 

The dining area seats 4 comfortably and converts easily into a double berth. There is ample storage space under the bench seats. 

There is a forward cloakroom with basin inset with cupboards under and WC. 

Still further forward is a cabin with double bed (storage under) cupboard and wardrobe. 

Steps at the rear of the saloon lead down to the master en suite cabin which comprise of a double bed with access both sides and storage under. There are also two cupboards, a wardrobe and a full length fitted mirror. The en-suite consists of a shower unit,with tiled cubicle, basin inset in a vanity unit with large surface area and cupboards under, and a WC. 

Throughout the boat there are ample UK electrical sockets fed from shore power or from an inverter. An Eberspacher central heating system equips Glistening Steel for winter use. 

On deck the boat has the helm at the stern which provides instrumentation and controls for engine and bow thruster operation. The whole stern area is protected from the weather by a Bimini with side panels and a tonneau cover. All these covers can be unzipped, folded back and/or removed for fair weather cruising. 

To the rear of the Skipper's seat there is a fold away table and 4 folding chairs for alfresco dining. On the starboard side of the boat are the gas locker and fuel and water filling points.

General comments by vendor

A very well run syndicate which we have been involved with since the demise of Challenger syndicate and took over and self managed. (NB Of the twelve shares, at present there are actually only ten owners as two owners each have two shares) 

This is a great opportunity to become a co-owner in an easily handled Stevens 1140 Dutch Steel Cruiser based at the secure H20, Port de Plaisance, Saint Jean de Losne some 20km south east of Dijon and 5 to 6 hours driving from Calais. The River Saone runs through St Jean which is considered to be the boating centre of France with easy access to 2 rivers and 4 canals. With the advantage of carrying out remote changeovers, the choices of cruising areas are many.

The rivers and canals never seem crowded. The locks are mostly automatic in this area with lock-keepers deployed to assist when the locks are manual.

The friendly syndicate is self managed with an elected committee and owners meet once a year at the AGM. So that every aspect can be covered the meeting is an all-day event and only ends when everyone has had their say, and decisions taken, as to how the boat will be managed, engineered, maintained, improved and financed for the coming boat year (April to March). As we are self managed all subscriptions go in to maintaining Glistening Steel in tip top condition. We have an annual general agm when we decide on what needs to be done for the maintenance of the boat.

We all get on well with each other and all take part in various areas of management of boat.

Swapping periods on boat is usually very easy. Distant swap-overs have been organised between share holders. 

No known extra costs at time of writing (October 2019).

Glistening Steel is located in the lovely Burgandy area with easy access to four different canals plus the winding river Saone through many historic towns.

Huge variety of boating and locks as three canals going east and west nearby.

Marina offers a club house with laundry facilities, shower rooms and places to it and read. 

Wi-Fi is good signal strength most of the time. 

The boat is close to a small village with supermarket and local shops etc. Within a two week cruise it is possible to reach (and return from) as far as Lyons to the south, Besancon to the east and Port du Saone to the north. With a distant hand-over Nancy in Alsace is easily reachable as is Monbeliard, near Switzerland.

It is a beautiful cruising area.
