General Comments About the Boat

Dorchester is accessed via doors on each side of the wheelhouse. The wheelhouse features the running gear and instrumentation, ample seating with provision for the erection of two tables and access through a floor hatch to the spacious engine room. The wheelhouse roof has recently been replaced to enhance its durability and to make it fully weathertight.

To aft of the wheelhouse, steps lead down to the aft cabin. This is a double with a porthole and rear window. There is a wardrobe , cupboard and drawer units. The en suite provides a porthole, w.c., wash basin and shower cubicle.

To forward of the wheelhouse, steps lead down to the saloon with galley area. There are four windows making this a bright and spacious room. The galley area comprises a newly fitted kitchen, including new units, sink and worktop, with breakfast bar and 4 stools, full size calor gas cooker, tall 12v electric fridge/freezer and 240v microwave. There is also a large larder area providing ample storage. The lounge area comprises two armchairs, a bed settee, TV/DVD player and new multi fuel stove, together with further storage in floor to ceiling display cupboards

Forward of the saloon there is the master cabin. This is a double with two portholes and a window. There is a wardrobe and cupboard and drawer units. There is a separate bathroom to starboard and toilet to port each with a porthole. The bathroom has a bath with shower over and a wash basin. The toilet has a w.c. and wash basin.

There are adequate walkways all round the decks. There are lockers to the foredeck with gas bottle storage and anchor chain storage, the latter fitted with a manual winch. The cabin roofs provide adequate space for deck chairs etc.

Dorchester has diesel powered central heating with radiators in the main areas. It also provides domestic hot water which supplements water heating via the engine. Power is via a bank of new AGM batteries, monitored by recently fitted Smartguage, with a 2kw Victron inverter providing power to a range of 240v sockets.

General comments by vendor

I have been an owner of Dorchester for 8 years and have thoroughly enjoyed my time aboard.

I now want to spend more time on the water and have decided to explore the canals, so I have bought my own boat. I will be sad to sell my share, but I just don't have enough time now to make full use of her.

Dorchester is well known on the Thames. Lock keepers and fellow boaters are always happy to see her. All owners have a certificate of competence in boat handling and the navigation of Sonning Bridge.

Dorchester can cruise the Thames from Oxford down to Teddington Lock quite easily and provides a very enjoyable week or two aboard, whichever way you decide to go.

Cruising beyond Oxford and onto the tidal Thames requires greater expertise and needs to be agreed in advance with the syndicate committee.

Dorchester is well maintained and cared for by an enthusiastic committee and owners, some of whom have owned shares since the boat was first built. As such, it is well maintained and a full repaint was completed at the end of 2024.

The boat is subject to an ongoing maintenance and improvement programme, which over the last few years has included: -

All windows have been replaced with new
New wheelhouse structure
Refurbishment of wheelhouse interior, including new floor
Replacement kitchen units, worktops, sink, cooker and fridge/freezer
AGM batteries
Smartguage monitoring system
Upgraded inverter
New multi fuel stove
Internal repainting

Current/future plans include new curtains and wheelhouse upholstery (paid for) and replacement of the bath/shower/toilets.
