General Comments About the Boat

Dragonfly is a 58ft, six-berth, semi-traditional Liverpool narrow boat launched in 2002. She was completely repainted for the start of the 2024 season.

Entering from the stern, you will find the fixed double berth in a comfortable cabin with wardrobe, calorifier, cupboards and under-bed storage.  The bed is 4’ x 6’3” and has a good-quality orthopaedic mattress to ensure a relaxing night’s sleep.

In early 2011, the bathroom and kitchen area was completely refurbished and now consists of a walkthrough bathroom with cleverly designed private toilet cubicle, full size shower with overhead and hand-set, stylish ceramic washbowl and heated towel rail. Beyond this is the kitchen, which is well equipped with 700mm gas oven/grill, 4-burner gas hob, fridge, 1.5 bowl stainless steel sink and lots of storage space including a built-in wine-rack. A good range of pans, crockery and cutlery is provided together with all the little extras, such as cleaning materials, matches etc, that you may require.

A 240v power supply from a Victron Multiplus inverter/charger allows use of a toaster and microwave (or any other small appliances owners may choose to bring with them) and there are several other sockets elsewhere on board. All major appliances are 240V for reliability and ease of update.

Central heating is provided by an Eberspacher unit, feeding radiators throughout the boat.

There is a comfortable dinette, which can be converted into a second double berth. This is slightly raised and gives good views from the large picture windows.

The saloon is spacious and airy, having double doors opening to the bow area. Two comfortable swivel chairs and footstools are in the saloon, (where airbeds are provided for the additional berths), and there is a colour TV/DVD Player, CD/Radio and, for the chillier nights, a traditional solid-fuel stove.

The whole boat is tastefully furnished in shades of green with ash panelling and Old School House white paintwork.

The boat has a wi-fi system on board and Smart TV.

Dragonfly is well managed by her owners and has a very healthy account balance. She was completely repainted last winter and some considerable interior refurbishment was also completed. She’ll be good for many more years’ happy cruising!
Dragonfly is a well-established syndicate with many long-standing members. It is managed efficiently and communications between members (including Secretary and Boat Manager) are good.

We have a TV, CD and radio on board as well as two very comfortable recliner chairs.

Dragonfly’ cruising season runs between mid-February and early December, and annual maintenance is scheduled over winter. Unlike other schemes, you stick to the same fixed week every year making it easy to plan your holidays to fit in with work or school commitments.

We started off life as part of the original Boatshare Company (nothing to do with this site) but, following the decision to move to new moorings in 2006, three of the owners took on the roles of Boat Manager, Secretary and Treasurer.  Fees are paid annually in accordance with the number of shares owned and this pays for all shared running costs such as licensing, insurance, mooring, regular maintenance etc. The only thing you will need to pay for at the end of your holiday is fuel and pump-out.

We have a robust handover procedure carried out by Owners at each changeover and is serviced regularly by marina staff. They will also provide a valet service, if required.   Winter maintenance, including hull-blacking if necessary, is carried out annually during December and January. The weekly costs are the fuel for propulsion and heating, toilet pump out and coal/logs etc. There is also a gas fund aboard so no-one has to pay the full cost of a new cylinder. We have River Canal Rescue (RCR) Gold membership.

Owners are kept informed of all developments through our own Facebook page and email updates, and are encouraged to attend the Annual General Meeting which is held in June each year.  There is a great spirit of camaraderie among the owners.

General comments by vendor

My partner had shares in this boat for over 20 years.

I joined him on many holidays & thoroughly enjoyed the tranquillity & slow pace of life at this time of year where you can enjoy the wildlife.

These 2 weeks are a lovely quiet time for a canal holiday as there is not the hustle & bustle of other canal boaters 'queueing' up to get through the locks.

Dragonfly is available for use between February and early December each year and people buy as many weeks as they require at the time of year which suits them. Unlike other schemes, you stick to the same week every year making it easy to plan your holidays to fit in with work or school commitments.
