A few words about products you might purchase from boatshare.co.uk

The items offered from boatshare.co.uk are technically graded stock. 

So what does that mean?

Well, in theory they have been refurbished in some way. Now this could be for any number of reasons. At the worst end of the scale they have been bought by somebody, found to be faulty and exchanged by the retailer, subsequently repaired and offered here.

But items are refurbished for any number of reasons, and come out at various grades. It is not unknown for it to be a faulty batch of remote controls, or even just a damaged carton. I only order "prime" stock, this means that they are really undistinguishable from "new", apart from the fact that they might come in a plain box. Very minor marks may be visible on the cabinet, but these would have to be very minor for me to accept the item. I have no interest in selling you something you would not be happy with. I can send all stock back, and so if I don't like it for any reason I will!

I would honestly say that you would never know items were in fact graded stock unless you read this page! However, I like to be up front and straight with people.

I open and examine (and usually test) every single item I sell. That way I can be certain that when it left me it was "new" and in fine working order. So confident am I in the products that I sell that I have set up a feedback page page (and yes I know I could edit it!).

(If I am honest I actually wonder if some of the items are refurbished at all, maybe they are clearance lines or even surplus stock that retailers wish to turn in to cash)

How long does my item take to come through?

MOST FAST SELLING LINES ARE KEPT IN STOCK.

Where items are in stock or a lead time is known this will be shown on the page for that product, in green. These are generally accurate (!?). If an item is shown as in stock it would usually be dispatched the following working day for overnight delivery. So an item ordered Monday would be sent Tuesday and you should get it Wednesday.

If you want an item urgently don't write and ask about the stock situation as this adds a day to the transaction, assume if it is shown it is correct and order it, we can always refund there turns out to be a longer than acceptable delay. 

If you elect to pay by cheque then delivery will take longer as we would have to allow the cheque to clear

Where an item is not shown as stock I reserve the right to take up to 20 days to get it, after that a refund or alternative will be offered.

Can I collect?

I would be delighted if you can collect (and if you live within a reasonable distance from west London I have been known to personally deliver!).

What is my warranty?

You are covered by the sale of goods act when you buy from boatshare, just as you are when you buy from any reputable retailer. This act means that you are entitled to a full refund or an exchange unit if the items proves not to be of "merchantable quality".

In practice this means that if the item is faulty from the box you can have a refund in full or an alternative unit. If your unit develops a fault within 12 months provided it is still available from my supplier then it will, most likely, be exchanged. If not then a free repair will be sought.

Please note that you would be asked to cover the cost of carriage to and from me in west London (unless exceptional circumstances prevail) and the unit must be securely packed in re-usable packing (in other words, keep the box!).

What happens if I want my money back?

In the event of a refund being made this would exclude the cost of the initial carriage to you (where this is actually included in the prices quoted, but varies from £5 - £9 depending on the unit). Also if you elected to pay by credit card any credit card fees would be excluded in a refund. All refunds would be made by cheque. You would, of course, have to return the item to me in west London. Refunds would only be appropriate where an item is faulty within warranty and you are unwilling to wait for a repair or accept an alternative unit, where the repair may take over a "reasonable" period.

At our discretion we may take goods back where a customer simply changes their mind, but these would be subject to a 25% re-stocking charge. This would exclude all carriage fees and banking fees, which would be deducted first. Refund would be by way of a cheque to the person who made the purchase only or by PayPal if that was how they paid. Goods would have to be returned in A1 condition boxed and any refund would only be AFTER the goods arrived back and had been tested. Should goods not be returned in a condition suitable for re-sale at full price, then any allowance we would have to make for re-sale allowing for damage would come off any refund.

By example, person buys a £200 TV set, carriage DHL is £15.00 (UK mainland, excluding Scottish Highlands and Islands), PayPal fees, say £7. So £200 becomes £178.00, less 25%, refund would be £133.50 - assuming it comes back in MINT condition. If set is returned damaged then customer would be asked to cover 100% of any reduction to re-sell felt appropriate. If customer refuses to accept offer having returned the set then the customer would have to pay carriage back to them before it is shipped.

It should me mentioned at this point that given our keen prices in the first place you would probably be better off selling the set privately!!

Please note we have very few problems with the products we sell as everything is personally opened and tested ahead of sending.

If you pay by PayPal for an item and we are unable to supply it, or an acceptable alternative, within one month, then a refund in full will be made including any PayPal fees. However, should you reject a substitute offered for reasons that could be considered "unreasonable" then the credit card fees would have to be borne by you. By example things considered unreasonable would be cabinet colour, style of remote control, added features (rather than removed ones!) etc.

Do I get a receipt?

You will get a receipt if you pay by cheque or if you pay by Paypal you will get a packing slip showing your payment

Can I have the item repaired through you after the warranty has expired?

Yes, but at these prices it might be cheaper to get a new one! Again, details on request.

Sharing boats and 12 volt TV sets don't really go together.

I (the owner of this web site) have been in both industries and made numerous contacts along the way....so why not!

Should I be worried about buying from this web site? It all looks a bit "cheap".

A good point. I have been selling these items now for about four years, not masses, but my supplier is excellent. To try to instil some confidence the feedback page has been introduced. Some previous customers have entered their e-mail addresses so you can contact them directly. I have nothing to gain by selling shoddy stock or providing a poor service, and everything to loose!

There is something I want that is not listed, are other items available?

Yes, just ask. The only thing I am not interested in supplying is satellite systems. Why? Simple, we do not want to be married to you!

A sorry tale of the Alba DVD566 DVD player.

Argos (and others) sold this DVD player as a Dolby 5.1 decoder with an associated amplifier and speaker system.

Being Argos they sold hundreds of them, for it was a very good deal. Only one problem, they also got hundred of them back again, as it did not work. Well actually it did work, only the instruction book for it was wrong, so unless you were "in the trade" and saw through the problem it did not work. Argos being the decent folk that they are, took them back....

So a batch of perfect equipment becomes "graded" because of an error in the instruction book. 

Somebody is even trying to make money out of selling the instructions correctly described (and good luck to them!)
