Valkyrie is an extremely well appointed and cared for narrow boat with a keen and involved set of owners many of whom, like us, have owned her since she was first launched. She was a very high quality build and fit out and has always been well maintained, great care being taken to keep her up to scratch. There is a comprehensive inventory that includes duvets and pillows, a full set of crockery, utensils, pots and pans and vacuum cleaner plus other day-to-day items. An anchor plus spare warps, tools, gas bottles, water hose make up the inventory. The flooring is mainly heavy duty carpet with cushion floor in the galley, bathroom and at the rear steps. The lounge has a Morso multi-fuel stove, flat screen TV and DVD player and a radio with a CD player. There are cupboards for glasses and a full length hanging cupboard for clothes. The L shaped sofa converts into a double bed with storage for duvets and bed linen below. There is a two table layout with a small and large table option. The small table can also be used in the cratch/bow on sunny evenings. The dinette converts into a double bed and has storage cupboards and draws below. The galley is well appointed with fridge, cooker, oven and microwave. There is a side hatch that opens with double doors with a perspex screen that can be used when required. The master bedroom has its own basin and cupboards for clothes. There is a radio/CD player. There are plenty of cupboards for hanging clothes to accommodate 4-6 people. There is also a safe. The bathroom has a basin, a shower and the toilet with cupboards and mirrors. A video of her can be seen at this link: http://www.youtube.com/user/jillyafay She is mechanically checked every week and has provided us with problem free boating for 10 years. She was repainted in 2009 and has had carpets and furnishings replaced as needed and has been taken out and blacked regularly. The syndicate is financially sound with some provision for major replacements if/when required. Weeks once picked can and are swapped and weeks not being used are made available for others to use. As one of the two school holiday priority shares our weeks are booked first and are chosen to match our holiday dates. Several owners use the flexibility of changing over remotely away from our base, which gives the opportunity to venture further. We have moved bases several times giving us the chance to see other parts of the canal network. The decision on where she will be based is taken at the yearly AGM. Sharing Valkyrie provided us with our first experience of canal boating. As such it has provided us with peace of mind in ownership when using her and knowing that she is secure and cared for when we are not there. Our enjoyment of the shared ownership has led to us deciding to own our own narrow boat outright. It has provided a wonderful introduction to canal holidays. |
