(April to September inclusive), and two weeks in the ‘shoulder months’
of March and October/November.
If an owner wishes to split their four week block they must consult
with the other owners to make sure that does not prevent others from
taking their four consecutive week block.
Each owner takes it in turn to have priority in booking, moving up one
position in the priority table each year over a repeated six year cycle.
Allowing for time for winter maintenance, any remaining weeks are

General comments by vendor
The exceptional and unique feature of Swallowtail’s boatshare is the 4 consecutive weeks of cruising available in the main cruising season. In combination with the central location of Great Haywood marina, near Stafford, means that Swallowtail has access to a significant proportion of the British canal network and a wide variety of possible cruising routes.
We will miss the variety and flexibility of canal routes that we have cruised on during our time on Swallowtail.
Swallowtail owners are a friendly proactive group with a 'hands on' attitude when it comes to maintaining the boat. The engine and gearbox are serviced professionally in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications by the marina boat service company and the winter service will usually include an annual bottom blacking.
The boat is equipped with duvets and pillows which are renewed every spring, a full set of Nicholson Guides, vacuum cleaner, toolbox, landline and carbon monoxide detector.
There is an annual owners meeting usually held in October when owners agree expenditure, improvements and moorings for the following year. We make all decisions jointly and communicate regularly, by email.
Owners are required to agree the terms set out in a Syndicate Agreement designed to safeguard all aspects of shared ownership and a copy of this may be seen by arrangement with the vendors.
Swallowtail owners are proud of their boat and wish to maintain her in top condition, the Syndicate Agreement makes it a condition of sale that new owners have had at least two weeks of narrowboat hiring or ownership experience (or equivalent) in the last two years.
There are four payments made in a year by bank transfer to the Swallowtail bank account administered by the syndicate Treasurer on the 15th of September, December, March and June. The total of each individual shareowner contribution agreed for 2018/19 (September 2018 - June 2019) is £1360 consisting of the following amounts; September 2018-£600; December 2018 -£400; March 2019-£210 and June 2019-£150.
Future level of payments will be agreed by the syndicate to meet the needs as identified by the group usually at the AGM. The payments are weighted, highest in September and December, to ensure that there are sufficient funds to meet the major expenditures of mooring fees, CRT license, insurance and winter maintenance that all fall due at the end of the calendar year.
Apart from the agreed owner contributions the shareholder is responsible for their own diesel fuel and diesel heating costs for their cruising time and ensuring that the boat is left with a full tank of diesel after their cruising period. The cost of replacing gas cylinders is met from syndicate funds.
