General Comments About the Boat

At the bow there’s a recliner chair and just about enough room for a person a beer and a small radio to sit / listen & watch the sun go down (or rise) in peace, it’s real sun trap in the summer.

Heading into the cabin, there’s a Relecks diesel stove (superb heater and perfect size for the boat) which keeps the cabin cosy in any (literally any!) weather (amazing in shorts / t-shirt in the deep white winter). Down one side is a long ‘bench’ style sofa which opens out into quite a large single bed and immediately opposite a fold-out table / chairs which can comfortably seat 2 adults / 2 children.

There’s a ‘through’ galley with storage both sides / sink / gas oven / gas fridge / paloma (another superb piece of kit) instant hot water heater and an all-round nice place to cook (I’ve cooked many a roast dinner easily).

Further through on the right is a small bathroom consisting of a small functional shower and cassette toilet system. Toward the rear of the boat there’s an extremely comfortable 4ft double bed with drawer storage underneath and a small wardrobe.

The canopy’s front and rear of Liverbird really do maximise her ‘smaller than average’ size.

General comments by vendor

I’ve owned Liverbird for 3 years and have known ‘of’ the boat and her owners on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal for many years. I know this boat’s history and know it’s been extremely well looked after being completely stripped back to metal in the late 2000’s followed by a 2 pack epoxy coat and regular blacking every few years. As you can expect, it’s been refitted more than once but it still has that ‘look & feel’ of a traditional narrowboat which she suits well.

In my ownership, I’ve upgraded the solar power system as well as removing / refurbishing & re-sealing all windows as well as sanding and repainting all over (professional sign written) I live nearby (within walking distance) and have lived in the local area for the past 15 years and am a keen angler.

The primary reason for owning a narrowboat is to travel the system fishing but Liverbird is such a nice boat to ‘be’ on I spend around 1/3 of the year on the boat and enjoy every single second. It’s an easy boat to navigate as being 40ft is able to turn 180 degrees pretty much anywhere on the L&L (without a winding hole) which a huge bonus and makes her the perfect ‘first’ boat or ‘solo’ holiday boat.

Due to the nature of my usage, the boat is free during all school holidays and summer months as these are the times when I am away with my children and fishing other lakes across the country, I’d really like someone else to being enjoy time on Liverbird when I’m unable to.

Overall I would describe Liverbird as an extremely comfortable / cosy and really nice place to be for either a solo boater / couple or couple with small child(ren) but can imagine it would be quite tight for 2 adults and 2 older children (although definitely doable – infact lots of fun I’d imagine) It’s an excellent boat for those new to narrow-boating, she’s really easy to navigate and a pleasure to spend time on.
How the Syndicate works

At the time of writing (April 2023) one-off bookings are available for the rest of 2023

All Licences, Insurances and Maintenance Costs are to be borne by the Principal Shareholder, these costs will be met by the weekly booking fees paid by shareholders. As such it is intended to take sufficient bookings that will allow the scheme to operate on a not-for-profit basis.

For 2023 a weekly booking fee of £500.00 will entitle a shareholder to one available week April to Sept and one available week Oct to March half price (£250) if they remain in the Syndicate and book (and pay for) at least one week the following Summer.

Those wishing to leave the Syndicate should indicate this before the end of the Summer Season. They may only sell their shares back to the Principal Shareholder who will refund 100% of  the share purchase price.

There are no frills with this scheme it is open to those who have or wish to gain enough boating experience to look after the boat and keep her in as good a shape as we can.

Owners to bring own bedding etc.

The boat is insured by Collidge and Partners who only require me to advise details of new Shareholders when they join or leave the Syndicate.

Both Collidge & Partners & The Licencing Section of the Canal & River Trust have reviewed my shared ownership contract and are happy that my exisiting insurance and licence are valid under these contracts.

To Summerise (Comments By Boatshare): You buy in at £500 and can book, subject to availability, as many weeks as you wish at a usage charge of £500 per week on board. If you want weeks "off season" then such weeks are charged at £250 per week on board.

You are responsible for everything on the boat and leaving it at the mooring at Halsall (unless otherwise agreed) in a clean and tidy condition ready for the next owner with tanks full of water and an empty toilet.

All Licences, Insurance, Depreciation and Maintenance Costs will be borne by the Principal Shareholder.

If you no longer wish to be an owner on the boat you advise the "Principal Shareholder" and your purchase price of £500 will be refunded to you.

Final comment by boatshare:

You must, to protect yourself, ensure before you use the boat that it is correctly insured as a shared ownership craft and you have signed a suitable shared ownership agreement.
