The mailing list is split in to sections to best serve the customers of this site. Suppose we here that there is a problem with, just for example, the telephones at a certain firm, well then we can advise those on the mailing list that might be affected by this, and not all and sundry. Equally there is no point in sending boating info to somebody who is only interested in caravans!!

Copy of a letter sent to all AOL e-mail account holders on our list on 11/8/2011

 

Dear sir or madam

Thank you for being on the boatshare.co.uk mailing list – I hope you find the occasional e-mail I send interesting, and if you are looking to either buy or sell a share of a boat, helpful.

However, I have to tell you that I am having major problems with AOL, and such problems a threatening the very existence of the web site. As you have an AOL account I would ask you to read this e-mail very carefully.

ALL the e-mail addresses I have in the boatshare e-list are on an OPT IN basis – yet somebody is reporting my e-mail to them back to AOL as SPAM, which it clearly is not if you have opted to be on the mailing list. I am not sure how AOL works, but I gather there is a button somewhere that you can press which reports “spam”.

This report is going back to my service provider who is threatening to cancel my e-mail account – something that clearly would be a major problem!!

IT FOLLOWS THAT UNLESS YOU RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL YOU WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE BOATSHARE MAILING LIST

If you wish to stay on the list please let me know by responding and advising me that you do.

If you reported my mail as SPAM, even in error, please let me know – at least then I will know the complaint is genuine.

If you are able to let me have an alternative e-mail address that is NOT AOL please let me let me have it – together with a note of the AOL one for my file.

I WOULD REITERATE THAT YOU HAVE, AS A MATTER OF COURSE, BEEN REMOVED FROM THE BOATSHARE MAILING LIST AND WILL NOT GET ANY MORE MAILINGS UNLESS YOU RESPOND TO THIS E-MAIL.

I am very sorry to have to write in such terms but this is entirely due to circumstances outside of my control, if anyone has any suggestions that may resolve the issue please let me know – but if it involves either speaking to AOL or trying to get my e-mail account on their “white list” then forget it – I have tried.
