General
Example was built by Harland and Woolf in 1997 and was first used in June of that year.
Shares in her from new were slow to sell and we did not get our full compliment of owners until early 1998.
Our group come from all parts of the world as, although 10 live in England we have one from Scotland and one from America!
Years since build
1997/8
The boat was, in her first year part year and full second year, moored in Oxford on the canal and from there she explored etc etc etc
1999
In year two we elected to keep her in the same area but actually moored her on the Thames and thus did not bother with the canal (BW) licence. All owners agreed to just stay on the Thames and any wanting to use the canals bought their own licence on a "pay as you go basis".
As it happens The Thames and Wey were all we used, the weather was very kind that year and all owners agreed that it was a really good decision.
We went to etc etc etc
2000
A move to the Midlands was made and we moored at Rugby. Some owners agreed to exchange crews away from base this year and so a round trip to Wigan was made by three groups. You can read all about it......etc etc etc
2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 to date.
etc etc etc
How the boat is run
Holidays
Our commercial operator arranges a meeting each year. At this meeting we decide who is getting what weeks, plus other matters to do with the boat.
Our weeks are selected as follows. We allow the Americans to choose first, as they have some distance to travel, then we all pull weeks from a hat. It does not work that well and some people feel aggrieved that the Americans always have the best choice, but that was the way it was sold to us so we live with it. The old coin tossing/darts and conkers system was scrapped after the Americans joined as they did not understand the rules of conkers, and could not spell it, so were not able to look them up.
Some owners agree to exchange odd weeks between each other. Our operator keeps a note of who is having what week.
Maintenance and moorings
We tend to agree on things that need doing, so that is not a problem, and strangely where the boat is moored each year is something we all tend to agree on. All the group like to explore, so we move her around quite a bit now, whereas the first three years were really in the Oxford area. This was mainly at the request of the operator who had shares to sell and teething problems to sort out.
Internet message board
Up until now we didn't have a way of exchanging views other than by e-mail, and that got very long winded and messy as views all get mixed up. This new (albeit public) message board off this site is great!!
(A group can request their very own free board - hosted by Bravent, and linked from here. This will allow owners to exchange views.) E-Mail boatshare for more information

Vendors comments
In previous years the running costs have been nearer £900.00 but this year the boat had a new gearbox and bow thruster overhaul.
I have been an owner on Example for around three years and have been very happy with the boat and seem to have dropped lucky each year with the weeks I have got.
I am only selling as my wife is giving me trouble. I would be very happy to arrange with my fellow owners for you to view the boat almost any Saturday, and other times may well be possible. The boat is presently operating out of Joe Bloggs Marina just north of Stoke, and they are most accommodating. (specific marina details will only be inserted where a share is offered for sale)
My commercial operator operates a waiting list system hence officially my share is not for sale, so there is little point in going through them at this stage. If you view and wish to purchase I will then negotiate the sale with you. I have spoken to the other person selling on the boat and we have agreed that if you prefer their choice of weeks (they are.......) then their share can go and I will carry on with the advert. At least advertising it here both shares are on the market. Before you ask the price for either share is the same!!
