Bulwark is a trad style narrow boat fitted out by Narrowcraft in 1996.
The steelwork by Colecraft is 10mm keelplate, 6mm to gunwales and 4mm
superstructure. The water tank and lockers for storage gas bottles are in
the bow, A table and cushions can be used in good weather. Further storage
and a water filtration system is provided below this deck - access from
within the cabin.
The boat is fully equipped for cruising the canal system and the permitted
tidal and non tidal rivers, with an anchor and chain and buoyancy jackets.
The interior is panelled in light oak veneer with Iroko trim throughout.
The floor is laid with Parkiflex tiles, with overlaid carpet tiles in the
bedroom. Curtains or blinds are fitted in all areas.
The cabin is large and open plan with fitted cupboards and dining table (4
storable chairs). The freestanding 3 seater settee and armchair with
stool/coffee table together convert to a double and single bed.
Heating is by low level radiators from front to back and a new Moso
Squirrel multi fuel stove which is more than even the weather in mid
winter can throw at us.
Provision is made for TV, and the radio/CD can be relayed to the bedroom.
The Galley is equipped with eye level cooker and grill,4 burner gas hob
and 4.3 cu.ft electric fridge. Ample work surfaces have drawer and
cupboard space beneath. Drinking/cooking water is filtered a second time
at the sink.
There is a side hatch with removable screen.
The bathroom has shower/bath, basin and cupboard above and below, The
electric toilet is connected to a holding tank with a 24- 28 person day
capacity.
The bedroom has a fixed double berth with storage above and below. A full
length wardrobe and dressing table with drawers and shelves give generous
storage.
The Engine room has a comprehensive control panel, with adverc battery
management System for the 12v supply provided by 3 domestic and 1 engine
battery. The on inverter produces 240v supply to power vacuum cleaner,
hair dryer etc.
The engine is below a removable floor hatch, and has been maintained
professionally at regular intervals.
Our group hold an AGM in January to discuss plans for the forthcoming year
and organise the use of our boat. Ideally, we aim to achieve blocks or
usage to allow the boat to travel further without the need to return to
base.
